I'm so tempted to try it out, but I just really don't like downloading a "random" APK without at least knowing if there's a way to verify there's nothing malicious in the app.
Chinese or otherwise, it's all the same. Took me forever to trust the newpipe download... I'm just too cautious I guess.

it’s available on Apple’s Store and Google Play at least in my region. So it’s subject to the same restrictions and oversight every other app available through those platforms is, at least.
Idk about apple but for android that doesn't mean much
I’m not sure of the proportion, but malware incidents are much rarer on the App Store compared to Google Play.
You can use it in a browser, but it looks like only the phone version has an option for english menus.

You can browse without an account by going to the site and clicking x at the the login popup.
You can't comment or read long comment chains, there's probably some other places where the popup blocks you.
