Even if I try to contact them for a bug report, the app just open up the email app and I know there’s some email advantage for organizations because of the automation etc. but I expected to contact them directly within signal app. Much more privately.

What private info are you sharing with a bug report?

Edit: That didn't come out as I intended. That is an honest question because as far as I know there is no metadata transferred from your app to Signal servers like other apps do. Also, for Signal to stay open source and copy left they have to keep development efforts unencrypted and in the open. Since patches, bug reports, and development efforts are already unencrypted it's beneficial to have email as a bug report channel. If your Signal instance or app is having problems you may not be able to report a bug over Signal itself depending on the severity of the bug. https://github.com/signalapp

I might be unreasonable here. Yes, bug report cannot be done anonymously because they can’t get back to bug reporters when they actually look into the issue. But do they really have to see my email address? With all the debug logs provided my behavior can be easily guessed even though some parts are obscured. Signal already supports user id feature. They might as well just use that. By utilizing that, they can always get back to me when they need additional info with more privacy.

You are absolutely correct where you said depends on the severity.
