Playing my PS5 on the Steam Deck while at the couch with my wife is a game changer. The battery lasts a lot, it doesn't get hot, the controls are great and the input lag is barely existent.

Recently I’ve been looking into getting a new PC as my current one and the steam deck can’t run a couple games like the dead space remake and horizon forbidden west. But it’s making me realise how good the deck is. You don’t have to sit for hours trying to figure out what works with what and can just turn it on sign in and play.

No bs with PC parts just a smooth pleasant experience, bit more complex if you wanna use a keyboard and mouse but not by much tbh.

I am here again to report that, to the chagrin of so many in the gaming community (/s), Genshin Impact 5.0 [Natlan] is playable on SteamOS day-0, minute-0. Much like yesteryear's Major Version update to 4.0, 5.0 launched just fine after the update installed, via Hoyo's own Hoyoverse launcher or via the Other Launcher project.

As always: Spend smartly - or don't spend at all, if you can, as it IS an F2P game - if you play. Be careful not to fall into the Gacha currency hole. But above all, have fun :D

I've been experimenting with a lot of games that typically dont work well with a regular controller set up and I've been pretty diappointed with most official layouts despite devs often claiming that they're putting extra effort into making the steam deck experience better.

It usually boils down to mapping WASD to left thumbstick, mouse to right thumbstick and maybe a mouse click on a trigger. Trackpads are at least often acknowledged but in the case of euro truck simulator 2, that wasnt even mapped on their official layout when their menu is mouse dependent...

Back buttons are rarely assigned any function and radial menus might as well not exist. Even in community layouts it seems few people look past getting basic function going.

Playing Stellaris with a radial menu to access a lot of the game's function makes it a lot nicer and smoother to play and games like Against the Storm or Civ 6 also benefit from some additional tweaking as the dev layouts leave so much to be desired.

Lowering settings to “Low” on the Steam Deck doesn’t result in significant visual degradation, thanks to the device’s smaller screen size. This allows for smoother performance without drastically affecting the visual experience.

These settings should provide you with a solid 60 FPS indoors and around 50 FPS outdoors on average. While minor FPS drops may occur when changing locations, the performance should stabilize quickly.

For more demanding maps like Chongqing or Miami, expect an average of 45 FPS in outdoor, open-space areas, especially where intensive CPU loads occur due to NPCs or complex lighting. However, this slight dip in performance shouldn’t be a major issue for most of your gameplay.

Recommended Settings:

• Fullscreen Resolution: 1280x800
• Display Mode: Fullscreen
• V-Sync: Off
• AMD FSR: Off
• Resolution Scale: 1.00
• Level of Detail: Medium
• Texture Quality: High
• SSAO: Minimum
• Shadow Quality: Low
• Mirrors Reflection Quality: Low
• Reflection Quality: Low
• Variable Rate Shading: Off
• Motion Blur: Off
• Simulation Quality: Best

If you experience frame drops in more demanding maps or areas that impact your gameplay, consider the following adjustments to improve performance:

• Enable FSR 2
• Toggle Variable Rate Shading to Performance/Ultra Performance
• Lower the Simulation Quality

Keep in mind that these changes will enhance FPS at the cost of lower overall display quality.

As I was playing mine this morning before work, just a little 30min session nothing special (because of the deck, that is now possible), I was and still am wondering what is yours? You know, a game that scratches your itch, a game where you always say “one more (thing that you do there)”, a game that you still play and sometimes even if you are not in exactly the mood for playing, a game that maybe ruins the fun for other games, a game that you play so much that even if you start a new game that is fun but you just stop playing it because THE GAME is just your thing…. The list goes on haha Well mine is Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. There is always one more floor on the Summit to clear, one more CP to do or just tweak my builds. Even if I don’t have anything to farm(which is all the time since I am playing this game for soo long and I bassically have everything) I am still playing it. That is my question today…
