Hello guys, I‘m looking for some great, (optimally cheap), casual games for the deck! By casual I mean something i can just hop into for some 5-10 minutes, nothing you need to play for hours to make meaningful progress.

~TLDR

My primary gaming platform has been a Xbox for years and years. I am heading on a sabbatical to an Island for 2 months where is it impossible to set up the Xbox. My MacBook is great but pretty limited on games. My buddy recommended that despite the price I should investigate the Deck. I was very hesitant at first because of the small screen and wondering how games were going to look and play with so little screen real estate. Would it be too small to play games that require timing and intricate combat? I have a 2 week return window so I thought I would give it a chance. Don't like it send it back. I bought the 512GB OLED. At 1st the screen felt really small. Though I was impressed but how it felt in my hands and the control layout. Luckily I am a Computer Engineer so I was ok with digging into settings and getting my non-steam game libraries working. Not sure 'regular' people are going to risk trying to figure that stuff out. LOL - I am still in the weeds about getting the whole ROM thing setup and working.

I installed one of my all time favorite games: Bioshock Remastered and dove in. Took about 20 minutes of playing and then did not notice the screen anymore - I was immersed in the game. For 3 days I played and did not even spin up my console at all - I was having a great time with the Deck. Just finished the game and actively trying to decide what to play next. Might go for BioShock 2 remastered. Also going to give Diablo IV a chance.

Ok I may not be in completely in love with it yet, but it is definitely a whirlwind romance heading in that direction.

I really want a Steam Deck. Have a oled 1tb on my shopping cart, waiting for my decision. I have a huge Steam library and so many games I want to play, but sometimes my ADHD makes me feel too overwhelmed to sit at my PC. I wish I could play comfortably in bed.

What worries me is whether I’ll use it enough. I already have a Nintendo Switch OLED, but I only own 3 nintendo games(animal crossing, breath of the wild, smash bros) for it because they’re so expensive, and I have to buy again the games I already have on steam, and I’d rather buy on Steam. Plus, when I want to play something I already own on Steam, it bothers me that I have to start a whole new save.

What’s your experience with the Steam Deck? Should I buy it?

Edit: Okay guys... I bought it. I'm so excited haha. Let me know what are your favorite games to play on the deck (:

Update after a couple of hours: Do you ever feel guilty and like you don't deserve it when buying something for yourself? I already have a good pc and a Nintendo switch. Fuck anxiety, omg. I hope to get relaxed with the games I'll be playing while cozy in my bed lol.

Basically i posted a guide on how to make a game function on the deck and people freaked out because i suggested installing CryoUtilities and Proton GE. Basically roasting the devs who dont even claim deck verification because they "shouldn't have to download 3rd party programs"

Proton IS a third party program... open source 3rd party is literally what makes the steam deck good. Who knew?

A few months ago it was found that Valve is testing Waydroid in Steam, now it's seems we will have an Arm version of Proton with Waydroid for running Android apps and FEX for running x86 on Arm. Considering they test a lot of VR stuff it's most likely for their next VR headset, but this might also be used for future Steam Deck 2
