This subreddit has gone completely dead, only "this is my little docked setup" or "it finally arrived, what should I do next" posts, surely I can't be the only one who's bothered by this? It's like groundhog day every morning.

the steamdeck is an amazing piece of kit and deserves better.

7 months ago my wife and I had our first son. My evenings of gaming have gone away, as my priority is my son when I come home (also to give my wife a much needed break as she is a stay at home mom). I've only played console games through my life so I wasn't aware of "Steam" as a platform. I've missed gaming as it has always been my mental escape where I could shut my brain off for an hour (which is even more needed lately!). Then came the Steam Deck. I heard about this device and then found this community. I ordered the OLED model on a whim and it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made. The past 3 months I've been able to return to gaming during my lunch break at work. I've finished Portal 2, Tomb Raider, Titanfall 2, and Fallout 4. I don't mess with any game settings. The most I do is set the screen frame rate from the decks built in overlay. It's been a phenomenal experience and I can't wait for my next campaign to play.

Hear me out. I stream games to my Steam Deck from my Playstation 5. However although there are games on PS Plus, if they are on sale REAL CHEAPLY on Steam and they work on a Steam Deck, I would rather buy them natively for cheap than stream them from my PS5.

Is this weird or normal behaviour?

The minimum specs have been announced for Civ 7. Not a guarantee, but the minimum specs look promising.

Edit: sorry just noticed the typo in the title

Compared to what you’re normally burning on your PC and/or console, if the deck isn’t your primary gaming device. I know that in my case, ever since getting it I’ve been immersing myself more in indie genres that just never got my attention on PC. I’ve always been pretty basic when it comes to genres, mind you. Mostly FPS and racing games and it was as slow way to discovering the RPGs and more narrative rich stuff that expanded my horizons. The deck really pushed me into being more adventurous when picking what to play next. But I owe the deck for getting me deep into these two in particular

  • Roguelites — Dunno what is it about handhelds but I think playing Balatro was the first time my battery died on me while I kept saying to myself… just one more run, just one more run, just one… more… run. Besides that, with all the newer releases (like Astral Ascent + replaying Hades while waiting for the full release of Hades 2) they just keep on giving way, and eating my time lol, way beyond their paygrade
  • Puzzlers — The chillest of the chill games to play before going to bed. They jog your mind just enough to keep you from dozing off (like Return of the Obra Dinn) while keeping you interested throughout with the story. Or the opposite, like Paper Trail that just slowly “lulled” me into the story and carried me bit by bit to the end, although I guess you could feasibly finish it in like 1-2 sittings

I feel like ARPGs are also very good because of the isometric perspective. D2R was my go to, now I’m cycling between Last Epoch and Path of Exile, both pretty good except LE requires some fixes to run smoothly… tho PoE also has the occasional hiccup when loading new areas (or else my deck is just playing tricks on me idk)

I find the 'hidden gem' threads quite interesting, but the game selection usually leaves quite a bit to be desired, due to people understanding the term quite differently. So let me clarify the definition for the needs of this thread:

  • The game needs to be available to purchase/download via Steam
  • It needs to have 999 total reviews or fewer as of today
  • You need to love playing it on your Steam Deck!

That's it! Now hit me with your little known gems! (Current number of reviews and a short description of the title are also nice to have.)

I'll start:

  • Final Profit: A Shop RPG (319 reviews) - It's a cozy shop management game like Recettear, but with an actual storyline and way more depth. The amount of care and thought put into this are incredible! Also a LOT of fun secrets to discover.
  • Crop Rotation (425 reviews) - a fun puzzley roguelite I stumbled upon when I was done with Luck Be A Landlord and was looking for something similar (which is also a good Steam Deck title, but doesn't fit criteria of this thread). You plant your crops, trying to find synergies and optimize your earnings. Very satisfying when you manage to pull in the big bucks.

Looking forward to seeing your suggestions!

Bought my SD last month and very happy with the purchase. Managed to play my backlogs and actually finished them lol. Finished resident evil village and kingdom hearts 1.5 and 2.5 after having SD

EDIT: I feel like all the games you guys listed at the comment will be added to my backlog
