After three years of design, discussion, and community collaboration, we're thrilled to announce that Sailing, Old School RuneScape's first new skill, is launching on November 19th at 10:00 UTC! Please note, the exact timing of launch on the day might move and will be explained in further detail in our next Sailing blog.

Sailing unlocks new content found at sea! Own and upgrade your very own boat and as you hone your skills, you'll reach previously uncharted areas. It's a historic moment for the team and, of course, our wonderful community. From early skill concepts, throughout refinement, playtesting and polls, this has been a skill shaped directly with you. Let's talk about what you can expect from Sailing, what's still on the horizon, and how you can help influence development in 2026 and beyond.

Gielinor is once again faced with a terrible fate beginning with the letter 'a'. This time around there's no Apocalypse, there's no Armageddon, only certain Annihilation, which is more or less the same thing but with more syllables than ever before! There's nothing you can do to stop it, this world's fate is foretold, all that's left for you to do is gear up and go down swinging so that you might be the last player standing before everything turns to dust. Do you have what it takes?

Today's post focuses on exactly what's changed since our previous event (Deadman: Armageddon) and giving you a brief refresher on the most important bits. That means we'll be covering all of the most important changes at a top-level rather than bombarding you with hundreds of tiny little bullet points (though we'll be putting a blog together before the event to go through all of the finer details for anybody who might be interested!)

Before we jump into all of the exciting new stuff, let's get everybody up to speed with a quick refresher - we've had a lot of new players join the community throughout 2025, after all.

For the last month, there’s been one player in Old School RuneScape who set the goal to consume 500,000 trouts. There wasn’t much of an explanation behind why, just one of those weird online game happenings. However, as Louisifer ate his fish, he began to accumulate more donations from the adoring crowds.

As he hit his goal, players opted to start donating gold instead of fish. Why? From what I can see, it was just a funny alternative. Either way, Louisifer had managed to gain 1.1 billion gold. Now, Louisifer on Facebook stated that he had gambled it all away.

In case you've been living under a particularly large rock recently, Old School's first-ever new skill, Sailing, launches on November 19th at 10:00 UTC!

Before launch day arrives, we’re battening down the hatches and making sure everything’s shipshape behind the scenes. This week’s update marks the Sailing Technical Pre-Release - where we’re hoisting most of the Sailing content into the game, but it’ll remain locked and unplayable until launch.

In just over a day, you voted for a historic shift in RuneScape's direction and the future of MTX within the game. We'll be announcing more details and when to expect these changes to come to life on November 12.

We've seen, read and discussed a whole bunch of your questions since the vote went live. As we've done throughout this process, we want to communicate as early and often as we possibly can - so rather than waiting till the vote closes, we've put together our answers to your burning questions!

And don't forget, while the vote has passed the threshold for these changes to come to life, voting is still open until November 11 at 11:59pm Game Time.

Firstly, we wanted to say thank you again for the extensive feedback we received in the Experiments. We now have the most comprehensive understanding we’ve ever had about MTX - where it’s valued, where it’s not, and the ramifications of significant change.

Through your feedback and the data we’ve gathered, we’re ready to propose significant changes for the game. Before we do, we wanted to share some of the key learnings from these Experiments and how we’ve interpreted them. Let’s get into it.

[...]

The Experiments have shown us that significant changes to MTX have real promise and support. Importantly, it has also taught us the new problems it can create too.

Thanks to your incredible participation and detailed survey responses, we have enough information to act. We now know the bold changes to propose and the player challenges we’ll need to solve – in healthier ways – over the long term.

So where does this lead? On October 29th 2025 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 5pm GMT / 6pm CET, we will unveil our final proposal for the future of RuneScape.

Join us on YouTube for the reveal as we lift the curtain on our proposal for revolutionary change – and a final decision that will be entirely in your hands.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on this journey. See you soon.

Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is no stranger to madcap individuals doing harebrained tasks: 10,000 hour grinds, taking eight entire months to grind out a single baby mole, you name it. But trout guy, who has been attempting to make a dent in a stack of over 500,000 trout, might just be a secret genius.

As posted to the OSRS Reddit, "trout guy", or Lousifer in-game, has been trying to eat 500,000 trout for almost a week straight. "He keeps getting trout donations and the crowd keeps growing," writes user IronWurmple. "Last night it was about 40 people deep."

It’s been written about, tested, polled, tested again, and polled some more, but now the time has come for Old School RuneScape to officially get its first new skill line in years: Sailing will arrive to the MMORPG on Wednesday, November 19th.

“Sailing is a massive update, we call it our ‘project of projects,'” writes Jagex. “It’s bigger and more expansive than any content that’s come before it. As a new skill, it touches almost every aspect of the game, giving you brand new ways to choose to play.”

Naturally this involves the building and maintaining of a ship, multiplayer crew opportunities, ship combat (naturally), and a wide assortment of seaborne activities and exploration such as port tasks, shipwreck salvaging, charting the seas, finding new resources, and alternate ways for other skill lines to be leveled up that are accessible via Sailing.
