Are some Game devs just using Epic as a cash grab before they abandon their games?

I've noticed a lot of the games in my library are no longer in the store.

Some games still have the givaway description like 'We Were Here Expeditions: The Friendship' still has 'Free to claim until October 13' as the description.

Many games have not even received updates like other launchers too.

The developer of "What the Golf" have finally updated the game on GOG and EGS. A few years ago they quit updating the EGS and GOG version, while the Steam version kept on getting new content and new features. A few of us brough this to the attention to the developers and as a result they finally updated the game on EGS and GOG to be in line with the Steam version.

Lots of new content and features to check out.

This isn't a question, more of a PSA. I went to install a new game on steam and saw I was running a bit low on space so I go to check my drive. Look and find 250 gigs on my epic folder. "That's strange," I think to myself. I open Epic and see I only have two games installed which together should only add up to about 30 GB. So I go to check what's actually in one of the game folders expecting to find save data and caches and what have you, only to find a .exe file of that game. I thought maybe it's just a launcher or setup exe so I double click and it starts the game up instantly after not having played it for probably a year and a half at least. Go to check the other folders and it's the same thing. So today I found out epic hasn't been properly uninstalling the majority of my games (or uninstalling them at all.) Not only that but I go to redownload one of the games just to see if it recognizes that the game is already installed and will let me actually get rid of it but it just started downloading a second game file. So if you're running low on drive space and you don't know why- check your Epic Games Folder

tl;dr Epic wasn't uninstalling my games from the drive just removing the icons from the launcher.

What in the world of Japanese Hentai is this? Google has failed me with any info about this game. Has anyone tried it yet?

At the end of 2022 my account randomly displayed "Inactive." When I contacted support they told me I needed to prove I was the owner of the account. Fine. No problem. I had saved all information about my account (Credit cards, IP addresses, transaction ids, linked accounts, account creation date, ect). I even was a Support A Creator and had a creator code.

I emailed all this information to support and followed their instructions on how to recover the account. To my surprise they told me the information I provided was incorrect. I thought it possibly it was just a bad support agent and ended the chat. Same thing with another one. Five more support agents same response. Okay whats going on I spent a lot of money on this account and never broke any TOS, why is this happening. I contacted support about one hundred different times. Same response every time. I did this for about two years, attempting a new way to explain my problem to support. ZERO help from support.

Just recently I got absolutely fed up with this behavior. I have been playing Fortnite since 2017 and spent a lot of money. My Epic games account not only has my Fortnite content, but all my games and their content as well. I made a couple reddit posts to ask for advice and was told by people that I must've "cheated" "used VPN" or done something. They were assuming I was banned when I clearly wasn't. I was hoping for support from people who may have had the same issue and was greeted with nasty comments. Did not help at all. Typical Reddit! XD

I did a little bit of research and I believed that Epic Games was violating some sort of consumer law. I found that some US State's District Attorneys offer free consumer services. You can make a consumer report against a business.

I reported Epic Games to my District Attorney and got a call a couple days later from a very nice lady who wanted to help me. I gave her as much information as I could. I requested either my account be reinstated or a full refund be issued. The refund was probably a stretch but no harm in requesting it as well.

I made a post on this subreddit and, again, nasty comments. People were telling me I was the dumbest person for reporting Epic Games. I apologize if I'm advocating for my consumer rights?

About 2-3 weeks later I received a random email from a support ticket that was over a month old (They never respond to old tickets like that). I was told to click a verification link. I've clicked verification links about 100 times and they always declined it before. To my amazement they accepted it after TWO YEARS. I was able to log in and see all my Fortnite content.

I then received a call in the morning from my DA's office saying that Epic Games responded to the complaint and reinstated access to my account. The DA then closed my case because a resolution occured. WOW that actually worked :O

Its kinda crazy that I spent so much time and effort trying to gain access to my own account. I hope Epic Games can improve on their system. I would never want this to happen to anyone, especially long time players.

Thanks for reading! Hope this contributes to your day!

Hello! I wanted to share my hobby project for the Epic Games Store, EpicDB, a website that tracks products across the store - keeping track of information such as images, pricing, build sizes and more.

The project is still in active development, but you can currently:

  • Search for any organisation, product, sandbox, offer or item that has been indexed on the Epic Games Store
  • View products that have been created by sellers and their associated offers and items
  • View historical price and promotion tracking for all supported regions on the Epic Games Store
  • View information about offers and items, as well as a changelog that keeps track of any changes made
  • View build sizes for a product for each supported platform

If you would like to check the site out, you can do so by visiting - some examples of pages that you can visit on the website include:

  • The organisation page for Electronic Arts:
  • The offer page for Alan Wake 2 (includes price history):
  • The global history page that shows all updates to the store:

I hope this proves to be useful for people wanting to look into the inner workings of the Epic Games Store - I also have more features planned for the site, but am also open to implementing any suggestions.

Thanks!

Steam has it.

Ubisoft Launcher has it.

EA Games(of all launchers) has it

Battlenet has it.

Only Epic games, who is by some, compared to now, as one of the big launchers, is still so consumer unfriendly.

I am not talking off line mode. I am talking invisible. Sometimes after a long day at work, you dont want to be bothered by your friends, or family, and instead of having to tell them that, you just log in invisible mode and have a few hours to yourself.

Will epic ever add this? Personally I buy on steam because Epic doesnt add this. If Epic did, I would be more open to buying from epic.

Many want to see a true competitor to Steam, but the company of Epic Games actually don't. It's been 7 years and it's still not a user friendly, appealing storefront.

  • The speed of updates makes sense if 1 dev works on the client 20 minutes a day.
  • Still no way to gift games/gift cards, that would have been a good boost to the store.
  • Still bad library sorting, no "Recent Activity" sorting, that is default and has all your recent activity, played, purchased etc.
  • No game developer updates/patch notes for games in library that are easily easily available.
  • When downloading something and throttling downloads, when clicking on that blue text "downloads being throttled", you're redirected to a faq site in external web browser, instead of to your settings.
  • The overall feeling you get from the store is that Epic Games has completely abandoned it, or are completely incompetent with it, or both.
