i was talking with my brother about removing your phone number form social media accounts but on some websites when you remove the phone number it stays in the history logs on your account (instagram)

is this legal for a website to keep your number in the logs when you deleted it from the account?

I wanna make more of myaccounts in the internet secure with two factor. I don't know much about it, but found out about Fido 2 and so. The security key my webbrowser shows often is the one from Yubico (BTW, I would like to get one that works with Linux, with USB and for phone with NFC) I got concerned when I noticed that Yubico is from USA, (??) Because I think NSA and thibgs like five eyes and so. Is there actually a risk that the for example is made an backdoor in the key?

I'm wanting to run my own SimpleX chat server and set up a Monero node as well.

Can this be done on the same machine? I was considering getting a mini PC to do this so it wouldn't be too much of an issue with it being always on.

Or should I take a different approach and set up both separately on two different machines like a raspberry pi or something?

As I'm sure you can tell I don't have a lot of experience with self hosting anything but want to get into it to help strengthen the networks of these communities I care about.

Netguard "blocks" the internet on selected app making it not able to access the internet. But it uses VPN to do it? Can the VPN see every requests made by the blocked apps?

Mozilla Firefox itself and all Mozilla Firefox forks should be updated accordingly once a new build is released.

Last week, several pro-Palestinian Telegram channels were blocked in European countries, including the “Palestine Archive ??” channel with more than 15,000 followers and the “Resistance News Network” (RNN) with more than 166,000 subscribers. The exact justification of the ban are not known. While Telegram did not respond to a journalistic request, the RNN said that there was no reason for the closure. Anyone who tries to open up the channel in the affected countries now will receive the notification that they cannot be not displayed because they “violate local laws”. RNN and the online outlet The Cradle have spoken of an EU-wide ban.

While the legal basis for the blocking remains unclear, the political reasons are obvious. RNN itself explained to Peoples Dispatch: “We believe RNN was banned because we shed light on the reality of resistance on the ground, which upends the mainstream zionist narrative.“

It's pretty easy to spot dark patterns when you look out for them, but I found a pretty obvious example of this.

Stoofie is a brand that sells water fountains for your pet (I don't know what the problem with a water bowl is, but I digress). WayBack Machine

Plastered at the top of their website is "33% OFF Ends Today- Free Shipping" with no way to dismiss it. There is a scrolling text under the main image "FAST AND FREE SHIPPING 60-DAY FREE RETURNS"

If you scroll down, you're immediately introduced with a product with the option to buy two preselected. The rest of this section explains itself:

Other things are sprinkled in the main page, but it really is the prime example of dark patterns. I am personally sick of finding them, but would love to see more examples of what others have found. Please, share your favorite examples of dark patterns. Don't forget to archive them first so they can never be lived down.

Discord is now banned in Russia and Turkey decided to ban it too. This led to users trying to find a replacement and brought down the TeamSpeak and Revolt servers. Revolt even had to temporarily restrict registrations on the platform.

Oct 8 (Reuters) - Russia's communications regulator has blocked instant messaging platform Discord for violating Russian law, the TASS news agency reported on Tuesday, making the San Francisco-based company the latest foreign technology platform to be restricted in Russia. Discord did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Russia has for several years ordered foreign technology platforms to remove content it regards as illegal, issuing relatively small but regular fines when it rules that companies have failed to comply. The regulator, Roskomnadzor, last week ordered Discord to delete almost 1,000 items it deemed illegal and has previously fined the company for failing to remove banned content.

Just a post to say the goods of using SimpleX instead of others "private" messenger. First it doesn't not require any id, phone number, etc... Can create how many accounts that you want! Decentralized servers, everyone can run and use own servers, and communicate with others! Big privacy side! Look at this one of the best https://privacyspreadsheet.com/messaging-apps. The only negative is the usability of the app, this is why it needs support and be democratize to gain attraits to people, and maybe one day be one the most used messenger app...

I'm looking for a good way to share grocery lists in my household. Currently we're using Grocy but it has too much bells and whistles.

It's really nice that Grocy suggests known products and can be used with the android app. But the process of adding new products feels a bit tedious.

I'm curious what other setups there are. Any suggestions?

Recently traveled abroad and was shocked at how dystopian moving through borders is anymore. Scans after scans of passports, fingerprinting, face scans, questions about intentions for visiting, paperwork, cameras throughout airports that are surely doing untold amounts of biometric analysis with some bullshit AI…in some of these places you get laughed at if you ask about opting out. It almost isn’t worth it.
