My Google search isn't working correctly. I can use a widget but then I have two search bars.

Any ideas

What if we got to easily choose our web browser, and didn’t have to rely on complex operating system settings to change the pre-installed default?

In terms of the most balanced in speed, consistency in page rendering and good default settings, is there a clear winner?

Personally I've been using both Dark Reader and Midnight Lizard on different devices and I can't say I noticed much of a difference in terms of performance, what I did notice is that Dark Reader seems to have better defaults, but many complain that it slows down page loading a ton, I haven't heard the same about Midnight Lizard, but maybe that is by virtue that it has way way fewer installations and therefore fewer people talking about it.
Do you know if I've missed one and there is a totally different extension that does even better than both?

For the past few weeks I’ve seen Firefox use up more memory in MacOS Activity monitor with less tabs. I really don’t feel like troubleshooting it though.

This has been an issue for a long time. I’ve been trying to avoid Chromium based browsers, but Firefox seems to be unable to print a lot of web pages without cutting off the content between pages. This is Firefox specific, as it doesn’t happen with Chromium browsers. It’s really a pain in the ass when I need to print something I have to open another browser and print it from there. I see tons of complaints about this online going back for years. I just spent the past two hours trying (unsuccessfully) to print a recipe correctly. I eventually gave up, opened Edge and printed from there. The current state of web browsers is dogshit. It’s either give up all of your privacy or use broken stuff. Neither is good.

So the other day I was testing a new browser called waterfox. What stuck me as odd was how a small company seemed to have made Firefox so much more usable everyone. I normally use librewolf for privacy and security reasons but waterfox actually temped me to switch. (I ended up not switching for privacy and security reasons)

After I used waterfox for a bit I started thinking more and more about Mozilla the company. What are they even doing these days? It seems like they have stopped with the innovation. They could of setup a competitor to google with a custom nextcloud but they haven't made any competitive products other than a VPN.

I also saw a Nord VPN commercial and it was full of lies are usual (seriously, malware protection?). However a lot of there arguments could apply to Firefox. Why doesn't Mozilla do any sort of advertising? Admittedly Firefox isn't great in the UI department for the average user so it may be worthless

I cancelled my subscription since I received a notification that my browser is not supported. Perhaps I should have mentioned my issues with DRM as well, but this may have gone too far. One message is clear, too many messages are noise.

I found three, Betterfox, arkenfox, & Narsil.

I been using Betterfox for the last week. I been liking it because Betterfox doesn't break sites. Back in the day, I tried arkenfox. But it break some sites I go to. Narsil is a fork of arkenfox.

I’m wonder if its possible to change or refresh tab favicons and only favicons (without refreshing whole tabs). I looked through some pages on MDN and about WebExtensions but I haven’t found any search bars. I’ve also done Google searches specifically for that with no luck.

edited the heading of the question. I think most of us here are reasoning why more people are not using firefox (because it was the initial question), but none of that explains why it's actively losing marketshare.

I don't agree ideologically with Firefox management and am somewhat of a semi-conservative (and my previous posts might testify to that), I think Firefox browser is absolutely amazing! It's beautiful and it just feels good. It has awesome features like containers. It's better for privacy than any mainstream browser out there (even counting Brave here) and it has great integration between PC and Phone. It's open-source (unlike Chrome) and it supports a good chunk of extensions you would need.

This was about PC, but I believe even for Mobiles it looks great and it allows features like extensions (and I hear desktop extensions are coming to firefox android?), it's just a great ecosystem and it's available everywhere unlike most FOSS softwares.

So why is Firefox's market share dying?

I mean, I have a few ideas why it might be, maybe correct me I guess?

1. Most people don't know how to use extensions well and how to use Firefox well. (Most of my friends in their 30's still live without ad blockers, so I don't think many are educated here)
2. It's just not as fast as Chrome or Brave. I can't deny this, but despite of this, I find it's worthy.
3. It's not the default.
4. Many features which are Google specific aren't supported.
5. Many websites are just not supporting firefox anymore (looking at you snapchat), but you would be right in saying this is the effect of Firefox losing it's market share not the cause (at least for now) and you would be right.

But what else?

One of the main arguments brought forth for the switching to the WebExtensions system for browser extensions was that it made cross-browser extensions easier. Firefox users may now reap the benefits of this promise, as Mozilla has implemented functionality in the browser to import extensions from other browsers.

The feature, which is in testing at the moment, can be enabled by all users of the latest stable version of Firefox.

The feature is limited at the time to Google Chrome and select extensions. Even though Firefox and Chrome extensions use the same framework, WebExtensions, they are not compatible immediately. Firefox users who attempt to install extensions from Chrome's Web Store may notice that this is not working.

I'm trying to switch to Floorp right now from Firefox, where I have both the regular horizontal tabs, and a flat vertical list with the Tree Style Tab extension. I use the later a lot, and while I could keep this setup in Floorp, I like that the vertical tabs can be native instead of using TST. However, it just feels weird to not have horizontal tabs. I think I might miss seeing a bunch of my tab titles at a glance with it, but I have to use it more and see how I feel.

After the last 2 update I noticed that a lot of times fennec and mull just hangs or freezes when opening a website and needs to be force closed with cache cleared. I disabled dark reader and so far the issue hasn't happened. Is this just in my case or are others also experiencing it as well? Edit: I also have ublock origin if that matters

Look at it! What is that? It looks kind of like a cross section of a human, kind of, except the eyes are pools of blackened fire and the brain is sending electrical pulses out to... are those Jupiters? Why? Why??? This is absolute nightmare shit lol

I generally have a "home" Firefox window with my most used tabs pinned. Sometimes I close it before another window, so I was frustrated to "lose" it and having to redo my pins. But recently I discovered this feature. Joy!

Firefox has been improving drastically in terms of performance with every release. It's pretty evident in recent months, which is very heartwarming to be honest.

I, however, do to some bad circumstances, have been stuck with a not-so-good laptop (8 GB RAM, a 6th gen processor in AMD A8 7410) and Firefox doesn't run that well on it. This is something that I've observed with Firefox- if you have a decent machine then it will run amazingly fast. However, on lower-end machines, performance can be a struggle AT TIMES.

Any tips on making this browser run at it's best potential on a weak system are appreciated!

I know I could use an addon like RunWith to download files to the Downloads folder without it asking where to save them, but I want files downloaded through Firefox the official way. I have “Always ask where to save files” unchecked in settings, but that doesn’t do anything.

I am just curious because I had it off for a long time but have recently started to opt back in because I am too lazy to report every single bug I encounter when browsing the web but I do want to see Mozilla improve Firefox.

Edit: I got a comment here to use the RunWith addon. I create a shell script to open images in the preview app.

Sometimes on my Mac I want to open a image that could be opened in a new tab, directly into the Preview app (the default photo viewing app). It would be great if I could have a context menu option when right click images, to open them in the app, I wonder if there's an addon to do this.

Hey! I am trying to ditch chromium based browsers on android. They have a feature of clearing everything including cookies on exit and you can set exceptions like example.com's cookies won't be cleared. There is that option on pc but I couldn't find it on the android app. Do you know a way? Thanks.

I'm using Firefox more as my first choice, but I can't get away from Chrome completely because of work. I still consider my Chrome bookmarks the "master" and occasionally sync them to Firefox. I would like to be able to bookmark something while in Firefox and then have it available from my other devices using either browser. Is there a way to have my bookmarks stored in a common location, like Google Drive, and accessed from either browser? I tried Floccus with Google Drive as the location but I can't get it to work.
